Our Mims Retirement Haven mourns the loss of Braggin Rights

Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Kentucky mourns the loss of 27-year-old, Braggin Rights (1996, Iroguois Park/Jodi Z). “Braggs” left this earth on June 6, 2023 due to the infirmities of old age.

Braggs raced 10 times with 1 win, 4 seconds and 1 third place winning a total of $12,591.  In her broodmare career, she produced 6 babies.

Braggs arrived at The Haven on November 8, 2014 as an unknown mare, and was given the name ‘Lady Jane’.  Sometime after her last foal was born in 2011, she was sold outside of the major Thoroughbred auctions. She was purchased by someone who saved her, but that person was unable to keep her and Jeanne Mirabito was contacted.

In the summer of 2015, donors helped the Haven do DNA testing, and Braggin Rights was finally, and officially identified and got her personalized halter, her personalized stall door, and more importantly – her identity.

Braggs adopted our board member, Sidna Trimmell as her own, and every time Sidna visited, Braggs either sees her, hears her or smells her from wherever she is, and comes to up to say hello. As the years have gone by, she warmed up to other people, and enjoyed tours and all the visitors that come.

Ann Cheek, OMRH Vice President noted, “Braggs was a great lady, and I never had any problems with her, other than her siding with Exciting Bucket when it was time to come in, and refusing to do so.  I will certainly miss her and her presence here.  There is nothing easy about losing one of our Ladies, but I am comforted knowing their spirit will always live here at OMRH”.  Sidna Trimmell, OMRH Secretary said, “Braggs was definitely ‘my girl’.  I loved getting to visit her and hang out with her.  She certainly had a way of showing me she loved me as much as I loved her.  I spent every day she was here loving her, and I now I will spend the rest of my days missing her”.  Braggs’, and all the Ladies’ longevity is also a true testament to the love and care that all of the horses at the Haven receive”.  Sometimes, all it takes is finding the right person, and then The Lady knows she is home.

After being cremated, Braggin Rights will be laid to rest in the farm’s Invincible Spirit cemetery.
