Obituary: Ms. Stalwart

Ms. Stalwart died at Our Mims Retirement Haven on January 28, 2013. The mare was euthanized due to the infirmities of old age. She was buried in the Haven cemetery. OMRH is located at Ahwenasa Farm near Paris, Kentucky.

Said Farm Manager Jeanne Mirabito: “It was an honor to have this mare in our lives. Ms Stalwart will be remembered for her sweet disposition. She will be missed.”

A 1984 foal of Night Staker by Stalwart, Ms. Stalwart was the dam of Stalwart Member and Mount Intrepid. Stalwart Member (1993) is by Claramount and won $783,807 on the track. Mount Intrepid (1997, also by Claramount) won $398,306 on the track. Her other three foals were also winners. Ms. Stalwart raced 29 times with 5 wins, 3 places, and 4 shows for a total of $79,740 lifetime earnings.

Ms. Stalwart came to the Haven on September 17, 2009, along with Missy White Oak (1989, Baederwood ~ Miss White Oak).

OMRH became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2006. Featured in Barbara Livingston’s “More Old Friends,” the Haven specializes in “restoring health and spirit in aged mares.” The Haven is supported through donations, eBay auctions, and its online shop.

The Haven is home to Princess Royale, Bel’s Starlet, Cruella, Blue Viking, Lotka, Ms. Royal Flagship, Taba Dance, Trail Guide, and Dogwood Patty. Our Mims grandson, 1997 Breeders Cup Sprint winner Elmhurst, arrived in October of 2011.
