BOOK RAFFLE TIME! by Barbara Livingston

BOOK RAFFLE TIME! Help fix up the Haven’s wonderful old barn!
Visit Ourmims.org, “Shop”
Remember when the wonderful Our Mims Retirement Haven was in need of new fencing, and we had a book raffle to help raise funds?
It was a smashing success with I thinkkkk around $8,000 raised. Everyone was SO great about putting in $15/chance to ‘win’ the book – and what a change it made for The Haven. ❤
Many of us know their beautiful old, renovated, century+-old tobacco barn. So many great ladies have lived there, including Our Mims. And so many human friends have added their touches, with sayings, paintings, and such.
The barn reflects so much love. It speaks to their history.
But it’s aged and they want to keep it safe for each cherished horse there…so it’s time for some major work! Let’s help get this done! After all, there’s nothing more important at ‘the Haven’ than having their ‘ladies’ be safe and comfortable!
Let’s get this going! Raffle time! It’s just $15 per chance to win this very-limited, truly unique book. Donate $15 for one chance, $30 for two, etc. 100% of proceeds will go directly to Our Mims.
Now, about the book:

I began work on THOROUGHBRED MARES IN AMERICA in 2004 and finally finished it last year. It is an oversized coffee table photo book, with heavy-stock pages, of 50 Grade/Group 1 winners and/or producers.
From broodmare extraordinaire ALDIVA, three of whose offspring won Group 1s in the SAME season, to ZENYATTA, many of the names are familiar. Others are less so but, regardless, each is in some way responsible for Grade or Group 1 wins.
The rarest are mares such as PERSONAL ENSIGN and MY FLAG, who not only won Grade 1s but also produced Grade 1 winners.

With my dear friend Tom Hall’s research/assistance, each photo illustration is accompanied by a quick description of the main points of interest for each filly or mare.
The book is 11×13″ and done in sepia tones, so the images – halters removed, backgrounds minimized – would look like the old vintage conformation books of Rouch and similar. The photos here on FB were shot with my phone so the color doesn’t quite ring true in most. But it’s a really lovely book, if I do say so myself!

I’ve hand-signed every image throughout, including the title page and cover. I’m also happy to add an inscription for the winner.
So far, there are only 11 or 12 of these in existence. They’re super-expensive to print, which has kept my orders to a minimum. One each is bound for the Keeneland Library and the National Museum of Racing…and I own one, Tom Hall owns one, a lucky lady who won the last raffle owns one 😉, and five have gone elsewhere.
As such, there are only a very few left, and likely to not be more.

Please, please help Our Mims Retirement Haven fix up their lovely barn. Each of their beautiful mares is so deserving – and all of us who knew and love Jeanne Marie Mirabito ❤ want to help preserve her mission and legacy.
To join in this raffle, just visit the ‘Shop’ at Ourmims.org. You’ll see the raffle listed.
The raffle will wind up on ❤ Jeanne’s birthday, which is July 30. Yes, it’s June 1 now, and that’s July 30…but I hope to list other items in the interim, and my brain can’t do too many things at once!).
Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤

You just need to go to Shop which is in the upper right hand corner of the main page of the website. However, if you are using a phone to go to the webpage, when the webpage comes up, there are 3 little lines on the left side of the screen. Touch that and then a drop down screen should appear with Shop being at the bottom. Select Shop, then Shop OMRH and it should take you to the store to purchase the tickets.
