2nd Annual Open House on October 8th

Our Mims Retirement Haven is holding their second annual Open House on October 8, 2016, at their Paris, Kentucky Farm at 2810 Millersburg Ruddles Mill Road. Parking for the event is next door at 2804 Millersburg Ruddles Mill Road, and guests will be transported to the main farm via a hayride. The main barn will be open for visitors from 2pm until 5pm. A special dedication ceremony of the Haven cemetery, known as the Invincible Spirit Cemetery, is scheduled to occur at 1pm. Katelyn Chanslor is expected to sing at the dedication, and guests will also enjoy recorded music by the late Jennifer Riggs.

Other activities include meeting the Haven horses. Elmhurst, the 1997 Breeders’ Cup™ Sprint Champion and grandson of Our Mims, will be available to see as will Jo Jo’s Gypsy, the “miracle horse” rescued in a 2014 neglect case. Blue Viking, the herd boss mare, will be there as well. And Tea Biscuit, fresh off his painting duties at the recent Secretariat Festival, will greet visitors along with the other Haven Ladies.

Our Mims Retirement Haven staff will grill hot dogs and serve chips and drinks, free of charge. There will also be a variety of Thoroughbred/equine memorabilia available for purchase. Copies of Victoria Racimo’s documentary about the Haven, One Day, will also be available.

The Ladies and Gents invite everyone out for a great afternoon!

OMRH became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2006. Featured in Barbara Livingston’s More Old Friends, the Haven specializes in “restoring health and spirit in aged mares.” The Haven is supported through donations, eBay auctions, and its online shop.

The horses in sanctuary at the Haven include: Blue Viking, Trail Guide, Missy White Oak, Exciting Bucket, Dogwood Patty, Ms. Royal Flagship, Braggin Rights, Play Book, and Jo Jo’s Gypsy. Our Mims grandson, the 1997 Breeders’ Cup™ Sprint winner Elmhurst, arrived at the Haven in October of 2011.

Our Mims Retirement Haven is accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and the Kentucky Equine Health and Welfare Council. OMRH has received grants from Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA).
