About

Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Kentucky mourns the loss of 33 year old, Blue Viking (1986, Blue Eyed Davy/Fleetyear). Blue Viking was euthanized due to the infirmities of old age on July 23, 2019 at 11:21 am.

“This is a sad day so we must remind ourselves that Blue’s passing isn’t about death. It’s about a life well lived with personal expression. It’s about living every day and every moment,” said Jeanne Mirabito, founder of OMRH.

Blue Viking wasn’t a grand racehorse, starting only three times with earnings of $1,825, but she was always a force to be reckoned with. The big, bay mare stood over 16.2 hands tall. She had a strong will that landed her in precarious situations several times in her life. But she always managed to find someone to come to her rescue.

OMRH Vice President, Laura Fallis shared her thoughts, “Blue was one of the kindest souls I ever had the honor of knowing. It has been our pleasure taking care of her and she went with love and dignity. She will never be forgotten.”

Blue Viking arrived at Our Mims Retirement Haven in March of 2011. She has been a strong presence and fan favorite in the daily lives of all who knew her.

“It has been an honor to work with and love Blue Viking!” Said Ann Cheek, Director of Barn Management. “She was tough and had many opinions about how to be groomed. That's one of the things I loved! I will miss her bunches!!”

Blue Viking’s final resting place is located in the farm’s Invincible Spirit Cemetery near her best friends, Missy White Oak and Trail Guide.

“I am sure she thundered into Heaven with the same force and grace that we saw here on Earth,” said Mirabito. “Godspeed, Blue, it’s been an honor to have known you. You were loved beyond measure.”

Blue Viking spent most of her life as a trail and show horse. When her owner needed to make a cross-country move and it was determined Blue Viking could not go with her, Blue Viking came to live at the Haven. Blue was the boss mare of the Haven herd.
