Sweet Ambition Arrives at the Haven

Our Mims Retirement Haven is pleased to announce the arrival of Sweet Ambition. The stakes winning mare arrived on May, 18, 2018 to the farm in Paris, Kentucky via Millennium Farm.

Sweet Ambition, a 2002 mare by Menifee out of the Somethingfabulous mare Fancy’s Finale, earned $245,906. She raced 38 times with 5 wins, 8 places and 7 shows. She had a show at four years of age in the Wishing Well Handicap at Santa Anita. She finished first in the Cactus Flower Handicap at age five.

Sweet Ambition bore four foals, two sired by Student Council and two sired by the 2000 stallion Lion Tamer. Her last foal was born in 2013.

She was purchased by Millennium Farm and resold in 2008. In the Keeneland January 2011 Horses of All Ages Sale, Sweet Ambition was sold for $15,000. But the mare was recently found in a kill pen bound for slaughter.

Millennium Farm wanted to be sure Sweet Ambition never fell into the wrong hands again and placed her with Our Mims Retirement Haven for permanent safe keeping.

“It’s always so difficult to comprehend how any horse could ever be in danger of going to slaughter,” said Jeanne Mirabito, Haven founder and President. “We at OMRH have pondered this and just what a horse has to give to deserve a dignified retirement. We don’t understand how Sweet Ambition ended up in such a situation.”

She continued: “We are grateful to Millennium Farm for saving Sweet Ambition. From this day forward, this mare is ours and will never be in danger again.”

Added Haven Board Member Laura Fallis, “Upon meeting this sweet mare, it’s hard to imagine what she’s been through. The sadness in her eyes will be erased, and she will know nothing but love and contentment from this day forward.”

OMRH became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2006. Featured in Barbara Livingston’s More Old Friends, the Haven specializes in “restoring health and spirit in aged mares.” The Haven is supported through donations, eBay auctions, and its online shop.
