17 Dec Painting by Top Sire Turkoman For Sale to Benefit OMRH
Our Mims Retirement Haven, an IRS-recognized 501(c)3 charity, is happy to announce the sale of a Mares-terpiece by the pensioned California stallion Turkoman at auction on eBay.
Turkoman, the 1986 Eclipse Champion Older Male, completed the painting in 2009 with the assistance of Dawn Mellen from After The Finish Line, a foundation that helps rescued and retired Thoroughbred charities with grants and emergency funds. Using non-toxic watercolor paints, the stallion painted using his muzzle onto acid-free paper. Dawn then forwarded the painting to OMRH. Before putting the painting up for auction, the painting was professionally mounted and matted. It comes protected by a clear plastic sleeve.
Turkoman and OMRH share deep roots. Turkoman’s sire was Alydar, half-brother to Our Mims. Taba, Turkoman’s dam, was an Argentinean champion and a member of OMRH’s first broodmare band. She is buried at the Haven. OMRH provides a portion of Turkoman’s board every month to assure the stallion can live out his life at E.A. Ranches.
“Turkoman is family,” said Cheryl Bellucci, Director of Fund Raising and Promotion for OMRH. “So Jeanne Mirabito (Haven founder and President) and I had no problems saying that we would help take care of him.” OMRH has been subsidizing Turkoman’s board since early 2009.
The auction is on eBay and is scheduled to end Tuesday night, December 21st, at 11pm EST. The auction number is 130465894341. OMRH’s eBay ID is ourmims-org.
OMRH was granted its 501(c)3 designation in March of 2006. Besides Taba, Sugar and Spice (Mims’ half-sister), Hope of Glory, My Turbulent Miss, Iza Valentine, and Alabama Nana have also resided at the Haven. OMRH’s current residents include Hana Bride, Little Miss Porter, Bel’s Starlet, Princess Royale, Lotka, Ms. Stalwart, Missy White Oak, Ms. Royal Flagship, Cruella, Blue Viking, Trail Guide, and Turkoman’s half-sister Taba Dance.
