06 Feb Our Mims Retirement Haven mourns the loss of “Saucey”, My Heart Sez Yes
Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Kentucky mourns the loss of 29 year old, My
Heart Sez Yes (1994, SezYou/Stethescope). “Saucey” left this earth on February 6, 2023
due to the infirmities of old age.
Saucey raced 42 times with 14 wins, 6 seconds and 9 third places winning a total of
$291,757. Her most notable win was in 1999 winning the Late Bloomer Stakes. In her
broodmare career, she produced 9 babies by sires any mare would love to go to – such
as Distorted Humor, Awesome Again and Lemon Drop Kid.
My Heart Sez Yes arrived at The Haven on September 19, 2019. She had been placed on our
waiting list by long-time horse woman, Stacy Ferris, and when there was an opening
Saucey was brought from Florida and was welcomed home. Stacy met Saucey when
she became her groom and a bond was formed. Stacy continued to follow Saucey’s
career even when life took them separate ways. As the years went on, she did her best
to keep up with where Saucey was. Stacy was presented with an opportunity to make
Saucey hers, but Florida’s climate was not ideal for Saucey and Stacy knew a colder one
would suit her better – so she was welcomed into the Haven.
Saucey was pretty quiet and well-mannered most of the time. But that wasn’t always
her demeanor. In her racing days she always had some spunk about her. She liked to
circle in the paddock on two legs and she loved kicking up her heels. But the paddock
wasn’t the only place she was spunky – she was fond of trying to dump her jockey at
the gate, in the gate, or approaching the Winner’s Circle. Her attitude is what made
her successful on the track.
Ann Cheek, OMRH Vice President noted, “Saucey was a great lady, and a tough one too.
I will certainly miss her antics and her presence here. There is nothing easy about
losing one of our Ladies, but I am comforted knowing their spirit will always live here.
Saucey’s longevity is also a true testament to the love and care that all of the horses at
the Haven receive.”
After being cremated, Saucey will be laid to rest in the farm’s Invincible Spirit
cemetery.
