Maryland-bred Missy White Oak was the 1989 daughter of Baederwood out of the Tarleton Oak mare Miss White Oak. Missy had thirty-seven starts in her racing career, finishing first five times, placing second nine times, and finishing third seven times for career earnings of $141,150. Among her racing accomplishments, Missy White Oak won the Maryland Million Lassie Stakes at the age of two under Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone. At three-years-old, Missy finished second in the Miss Preakness Stakes.
Missy White Oak bore three foals, including Madame Pietra, a 1997 filly by Roy who won $437,215 in racing earnings.
The mare arrived at Our Mims Retirement Haven on September 17, 2009, with her pasture-mate, Ms. Stalwart. Ms. Stalwart passed in 2013. Missy White Oak was featured at Keeneland’s Breakfast with the Works on April 14th. She enjoyed meeting her old fans and making new ones.
Jeanne Mirabito, Our Mims Retirement Haven founder and farm owner, remarked: “Missy White Oak died as she lived: on her own terms. I am blessed to have known her. She will be missed.”
Missy White Oak was buried in the Haven cemetery.
