Hana Bride has died at Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Kentucky. Haven farm manager Jeanne Mirabito reports the 30-year-old mare by Coastal out of Sue Me Not was put to sleep early Wednesday (8 August 2012) morning. The mare had been suffering from a severe sinus infection and had recently been indirectly struck by lightning.
Said Mirabito: “Dear, Sweet Hana; She was lovely, inside and out. We were honored to have called her friend.”
Hana Bride had eight Thoroughbred foals, including the gelding Just Call Me Bob by Batonnier who won $158,564 in racetrack earnings. Most of her foals, however, were champion dressage competitors.
Hana Bride arrived at Our Mims Retirement Haven in June of 2005. She was rescued from a Washington feed lot days before being sent to slaughter. The Exceller Fund sponsored her trip across country to the Haven. Hana Bride was buried in the Haven cemetery.
