23 Nov Pocket Aces Racing’s Dixie’s Hope Runs for the Ladies
The racing team and syndicate members of Pocket Aces Racing, LLC, is dedicating another race to Our Mims Retirement Haven. PAR’s filly Dixie’s Hope (Cozzene x Kovincha) will be racing in the tenth race Thursday at Churchill Downs. The purse is $61,280 and 1% of the stable take will be donated to OMRH.
This is the second time PAR has donated a portion of Dixie’s Hope’s winnings to OMRH. The filly won the first race at Presque Isle on August 13th and PAR donated 1% of the stable take of that race to Our Mims Retirement Haven.
Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Kentucky, is a recognized 501(c)3 equine charity founded by Jeanne Mirabito. Our Mims was Calumet Farm’s first Eclipse champion (1977 Eclipse Award 3-Year-Old Filly) who spent her last years at Mirabito’s farm. The Haven was formed as a tribute to the grand old mare who died in 2003 at the age of 29. OMRH takes in retired Thoroughbred broodmares and provided quality care and love for them for the rest of their lives.
“Our Mims was the Rachel Alexandra of her era, the ’70’s, that witnessed Secretariat, Spectacular Bid and Seattle Slew. Her legacy and Jeanne Mirabito’s efforts with the broodmare retirement serve as a reminder to all of us to protect the racing industry by protecting the horses for their life-time,” said Jared Shoemaker, PAR managing partner. “We encourage all of Dixie’s fans and syndicate members to root Dixie on.”
Mirabito remarked: “On this Thanksgiving Day we’ll send our deepest gratitude to PAR and Dixie’s Hope. This gesture is to be commended. Our hearts belong to Dixie! Imagine, this fine filly running for our ladies.”
Dixie is a 17.2 hand 3-year-old who has some talent. PAR is serious about helping the smaller charities.
