The Princess arrives
We have a new lady at OMRH! Princess Royale arrrived yesterday at about 6 pm. Princess Royale is a grey mare – bred on 13 September 1985 by Australian Racing & Breeding Stables Ltd, NSW.
* As a racehorse, she won 3 races, all in Sydney including: Won AJC Morrie Anderson H., AJC 3YO Fillies Conditions H., STC 3YO Fillies Conditions H. 4TH SAJC D.C. McKay S. [G3]. Dam of 7 winners, including DANZIGS SILVER (f by Strolling Along). 4 wins at 5, 6 f. Won Fort Erie Adena Springs Matchmaker S. [L].
* Sire is Bletchingly. Arguably one of Australia's greatest stallions since post war. He stood at Widden Stud from the date of retirement up until his death on 13 July 1993. Was a champion sprinter, winning the time honoured Group 1 AJC The Galaxy in 1975 over 5 1/2 furlongs. Sire of the world champion Kingston Town, as well as Group 1 winning champions Best Western, Canny Lad, Canny Lass, Coronation Day, Emancipation, Lord Ballina, Mr Tiz, Spirit of Kingston, True Version, Wrap Around, etc.
* Dam is the Champion 3YO Australian filly, Rom's Stiletto. In 1982, Rom's Stiletto won the Group 1 VATC 1000 Guineas over 1 mile, and then 2 weeks later won the Group 1 VRC Oaks over 12 1/2 furlongs. She was also a grey, however did not produce one as good as herself at stud. On 25 June 2003, she retired, and now is a living at Arrowfield Stud. Princess Royale was her first foal.
A friend found an article that states that Princess Royale was sold at the Easter Sales of William Inglis and purchased by TJ Smith for $600,000 at the time an Australian record.
Princess somehow made it to Indiana where she was sold to a vet (for "safekeeping") about two years ago. The vet then gave her to a client who sent her to us.
