THE CHANGE by Garth Brooks

Almost every day I hear this song playing in my mind. I hear this song as I care for my beautiful ladies while battling the heat, the rain, the snow, the economic situation, the exhaustion, the ignorance of so called horseman and every other crisis that has recently made my mission tougher. I hear this song as, time after time, the horse industry's press people ignore the ladies and all the press releases we send out. I hear it as I clean stalls, as I groom, bathe, feed, doctor and love some of the most beautiful mares who have ever walked the earth. And I heard it as several aquaintances, who have lived high off horse flesh, laughed and called me stupid for even trying to make a difference.

I think of people like me, my friends, who are out there saving horses. I think this very well could be the theme song of my life.

The Change by Garth Brooks

One hand
Reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
And they say what good have you done
By saving just this one
It's like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm.

(chorus)
And I hear them saying you'll never change things
and no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know that it will not change me.

This heart still believes
The love and mercy still exist.
While all the hatreds rage and so many say
That love is all but pointless in madness such as this
It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss.

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
and no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know that it will not change me.

As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone.

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
and no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world we know never changes me

What I do is so
This world will know
That it will not change me.

  1. If I was there I would give you and all your wonderful ladies a "STANDING OVATION"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bless you for what you do for these beautiful ladies and bless them for what they have given the world and you in return!!!!!!!

  2. AWWWWW, thanks, Pam!

  3. I just found your website through ABR and have been lost in it for quite some time. It is wonderful. Thank you and God bless you for all you do for the ladies. I was totally in tears reading how you found Our Mims, saved her and then took her back home when her time here was finished.

I wish I lived closer and could volunteer with the ladies and you.

  4. Thank you, Fern.
Oh, what I’d give for just 5 more minutes with Mims. Or Iza, Jamra, Taba, My Turbulent Miss, Smokies Love or any of them.
Still, I look back, I look at the present and I am amazed…imagine me, the horse lover who never thought she’d own a horse, to have had the honor to care for these awesome mares!!!!!
For a poor person, I have had a heck of a stable, huh?
