OMRH Mares-terpieces Featured at Producer Feed in Paris

Are you ready for an Art Show like none you have ever seen before? Our Mims Retirement Haven’s mares have their incredibly unique water colors paintings on display at PRODUCER FEEDS , 4237 Lexington Rd. Paris, Ky (behind Perico’s).

OMRH is a not for profit horse rescue/sanctuary for aging mares. The “ladies”, as they are called, come to OMRH to live their final days (years) with dignity after their producing days are over. The mares, some of them quite famous, create their MARES-TERPIECES themselves using noses and whiskers instead of brushes. Each horse is shown a full pallet of watercolor and encouraged to pick whatever hue suits their fancy.

“We don’t pick the colors for the ladies,” said Mirabito, owner/operator of OMRH. “They pick their own. We wouldn’t want to stifle their creative flow.”

The mares are then offered the paper canvas. They wiggle their noses, offer full stroke swishes, or just dab paint here and there. The end result is a MARES-TERPIECE, each one unique. These works of art are then matted, framed, and sold to help offset the daily expenses at the facility.

Producer Feeds has offered to display the MARES-TERPIECES for the general public to view. “The paintings are beautiful,” said Hillary Tucker, Manager of Producer Feeds Paris store. “ I think it’s a lovely and unique way to generate funds and interest for the ladies. They are very creative.”

Paintings by Lotka, Bel’s Starlet, Timeless Sue, Ms. Stalwart, Missy White Oak, Hana Bride, Little Miss Porter, Taba Dance, Arc Bar Miss, Ms. Royal Flagship, Princess Royale, Cruella, and Blue Viking will be on display at Producer Feeds until October 2, the day of the big Secretariat Festival in Paris. To coincide with the Festival, Producer Feeds will have a BUSINESS AFTER HOURS celebration from 2 pm until 6 pm. Refreshments and door prizes will highlight the day.

Beginning September 27, the paintings will be offered at silent auction. The auction will end at 6 pm on October 2. The highest bid on each painting will win the art and a current photo of the mare who painted it.

There will also be MARES-TERPIECES for sale at the Secretariat Festival at the Our Mims Retirement Haven booth.
