Pocket Aces Racing dedicating race to the ladies!
The racing team and syndicate members of Pocket Aces Racing, LLC, is dedicating a race to Our Mims Retirement Haven. PAR's filly Dixie's Hope (Cozzene x Kovincha) has been confirmed to run in the first race Friday evening at Presque Isle. The purse is $35,000 and 1% of the stable take will be donated to OMRH. Dixie's Hope is expected to go off as the favorite.
Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Kentucky, is a recognized 501(c)3 equine charity founded by Jeanne Mirabito. Our Mims was Calumet Farm's first Eclipse champion (1977 Eclipse Award 3-Year-Old Filly) who spent her last years at Mirabito's farm. The Haven was formed as a tribute to the grand old mare who died in 2003 at the age of 29. OMRH takes in retired Thoroughbred broodmares and provides quality care and love for them for the rest of their lives.
"Our Mims was the Rachel Alexandra of her era, the '70's, that witnessed Secretariat, Spectacular Bid and Seattle Slew. Her legacy and Jeanne Mirabito's efforts with the broodmare retirement serve as a reminder to all of us to protect the racing industry by protecting the horses for their life-time," said Jared Shoemaker, PAR managing partner. "We encourage all of Dixie's fans and syndicate members to root Dixie on and help the ladies of Our Mims renovate their barn."
"This is very exciting," added Mirabito. "While there are a few races NAMED after our residents, we've never had a race dedicated to the ladies before. We are proud to be a part of Dixie's fan club."
Dixie is a 17.2 hand 3-year-old who has some talent. PAR is serious about helping the smaller charities. The race will go off at 5:30 pm on August 13th.
