A Change in the Weather… and Gratitude
The temperature is dropping. The leaves have mostly fallen; just a few hold onto the big oak tree in front of our farmhouse.
We humans may have to bundle up against the colder weather but the Ladies and Elmhurst are rejoicing! This is horse weather. The cool air invigorates them as finally the oppressing heat of summer is gone.
Still, extra precautions are needed to keep the herd healthy. Sudden drops in temperature, rapid barometer changes can often trigger colic. Especially in sensitive horses like Elmhurst. I swear, he acts like a man with a cold, poor guy. He just can’t handle the little things.
So, we do our best to compensate. Every horse will get double the usual amount of McCauley Bros Rice Bran Oil. We will also increase soaked beet pulp. These two changes will help counteract our weather changes and keep the horses producing manure.
Yup, you heard that correctly. Poop is a good thing!
We at Our Mims Retirement Haven want to take this opportunity to let every one of you know how grateful we are: for your love, for your support and for your donations. I wish you could hear us on a daily basis. Then you would know how much you are loved.
We wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. Stay safe and may the horse be with you.
